As families across the Triangle prepare for a new school year, many are facing a difficult reality: the cost of school supplies continues to rise, making it challenging for some students to begin the school year with the tools they need to succeed.
That's why Change the Type is proud to host its 6th Annual Back-to-School Drive on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Biltmore Hills Community Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. This year, our goal is to serve 150 students and their families by providing free school supplies, free haircuts, food, community resources, and a fun, welcoming environment that helps students start the school year feeling confident and prepared. But we can't do it alone.
Why This Event Matters
Every child deserves an equal opportunity to succeed in the classroom. Yet for many families, purchasing backpacks, notebooks, pencils, folders, calculators, and other essential school supplies creates financial strain.
Our annual Back-to-School Drive helps remove these barriers while bringing together local businesses, community organizations, volunteers, and neighbors who believe in investing in the next generation.
Last year, Change the Type served more than 150 students across the Triangle and provided support for more than 75 students in western North Carolina communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. This year, we're expanding our impact and aiming to reach even more students.
