5th Annual Back-to-School Drive Recap: A Day of Community, Joy, and Support

On Thursday, August 8, Change the Type hosted its 5th Annual Back-to-School Drive at Biltmore Hills Community Center in Raleigh, NC—and what an incredible day it was!

We were beyond grateful to serve over 100 families with bookbags filled with school supplies, free haircuts, inflatables, games, food, and so much more. From laughter at the game stations to smiles after fresh back-to-school haircuts, the atmosphere was filled with joy, unity, and hope.

This event is more than just about handing out school supplies—it’s about creating opportunities, building confidence, and showing our young people that they are seen, supported, and celebrated.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible sponsors and partners who continue to show up for our community: Bundts by Brenee, DJ J'Mar, Z-Fitness with Jacque Allen, Longleaf Swine, Lowes Food, Benchwarmers Bagels, Turner Legal Services, PLLC, Capitol Broadcasting Company, the City of Raleigh, Garner Police Department, and Diamond Cutz Barbershop.

To our volunteers, donors, and families who joined us—you are the heartbeat of this event. Your energy, kindness, and commitment helped make this our biggest and best Back-to-School Drive yet.

As we look ahead, we’re excited to continue building a future where every young person has the resources and encouragement they need to succeed.

Here’s to another year of community, empowerment, and change!
