It's That Time of Year Again! Change the Type Prepares for Its 6th Annual Back-to-School Drive

The backpacks may still be empty, and summer may just be getting started, but at Change the Type, we're already looking ahead to the new school year.
We're excited to announce that preparations are underway for our 6th Annual Back-to-School Drive, taking place on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Biltmore Hills Community Center in Raleigh. Once again, we're proud to partner with the City of Raleigh to help ensure local students have the resources they need to start the school year with confidence.
This year, our goal is to serve more than 150 students by providing essential school supplies and connecting families with valuable community resources before the first day of school.
What started as a simple effort to give back has grown into an annual community tradition that brings together local businesses, volunteers, sponsors, and families for an evening of support, celebration, and preparation for the year ahead.
The event will feature:
Free school supplies
Free haircuts for students
Food and refreshments
Community resources
Family-friendly activities
Local vendors and partners
Raffle prizes and giveaways
For many families, back-to-school shopping can be a significant financial burden. Through this event, Change the Type works to help ease that burden while ensuring students have the tools they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
"Our goal is to ensure students are well equipped with the things they need to be successful in the classroom and beyond," said Sydney Ross, Founder of Change the Type. "When students feel prepared and supported, they can focus on learning, growing, and reaching their full potential. This event is about investing in our youth and showing families that their community stands behind them."
Last year, the Back-to-School Drive served more than 150 students throughout the Triangle and extended support to students in western North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Helene. Thanks to the generosity of donors, sponsors, and volunteers, the event continues to expand its reach and impact each year.
As we prepare for this year's event, we're inviting businesses, organizations, churches, and community members to join us in making a difference. Whether through sponsorships, school supply donations, volunteer service, or financial contributions, every act of support helps create opportunities for local students.
